Pre-treatment prepares the greige fabric for dyeing by removing size, waxes, and impurities. It typically involves three sub-processes: desizing, scouring, and bleaching. These steps expose the fabric to heat and water under tension, causing a first round of shrinkage. Typical pre-treatment shrinkage is 1.0-2.0%.

Operational & Commercial Significance

Pre-treatment shrinkage sets the baseline dimensional state from which all subsequent shrinkage is measured. If pre-treatment shrinkage is unstable, every downstream prediction inherits that uncertainty.

Current Baseline Method (Manual)

Pre-treatment shrinkage is rarely measured systematically at most mills. It is treated as a known small loss folded into planner experience.

Capture Layer: EPI/PPI cameras at entry and exit of pre-treatment line.
Statistical Distribution Layer: Fitted distribution per construction class, typically tight (σ ~0.2-0.3%).
Real-Time Deviation Boundary: Alert when roll exits with shrinkage outside fitted distribution.
